Groups seek to retain Part D option for drug refills by mail

Several U.S. business groups including the Chamber of Commerce and Business Roundtable wrote a letter Tuesday asking Medicare Part D to retain the option for automatic, mail-order drug refills. The groups condemned a plan requiring consent from Medicare patients for each refill. "Automatic prescription refill programs are widely used to ensure retirees are following the drug maintenance programs prescribed by their doctors," the letter said. "We ask you to consider ... proposals for written or electronic consent when patients opt-in to an automatic refill program, with the opportunity for beneficiaries to opt-out of an automatic refill program entirely."
