Researchers release genetic codes for fruit

Researchers at Washington State University have released the genetic codes for the Comice pear, a French strain of the Golden Delicious apple, the Stella cherry and two varieties of almonds. The goal of tracing the genetic codes of these and other fruits is ultimately to help breeders create varieties with better characteristics, said lead researcher Amit Dhingra.
