Why Big Data investments aren't producing big results

Businesses aren't reaping benefits from Big Data and are basing decisions on incorrect information, according to a report from Hitachi Data Systems. The big culprit is inadequate silo data centers that don't produce real-time data. "You can't do Big Data on existing IT. You can't put two petabytes, five petabytes on top -- it just won't work," says David Merrill, chief economist at HDS. The research finds 53% of companies polled admit to being at risk of making critical decisions based on bad data.
