New state budget would give small raise to Texas teachers

A provision buried in the Texas 2006-07 appropriations bill gives Texas' lowest-paid teachers a pay boost of $670, while top officials in the state could see their pay rise by as much as $48,000. Texas State Teachers Association President Donna New Haschke says she's glad that about 8,000 educators will get the raise, but points out that the additional 300,000 or so classroom teachers deserve a pay increase as well.
