Report: Trash-to-energy incineration systems may not aid environment

A plan to burn trash in order to produce energy in Vermont and other places may seem like a nifty eco-friendly solution, but incinerators are toxic to public health, no matter what they're burning, and the plan could undermine recycling and waste-reduction programs, according to a new report. The report, compiled by eight national environmental groups, disputes the argument that the trash-to-energy system is good for the environment and says it could instead expose the public to dangerous levels of dioxin.
