Fighting intensifies in aid-starved Sudan region

Sudanese forces have bombed positions of southern-aligned forces in Southern Kordofan, denying for more than a week air and road access to aid workers trying to assist the thousands of people fleeing the violence in the oil-producing northern border state. "We are extremely concerned about the bombing campaign, which is causing huge suffering to the civilian population and endangering humanitarian assistance," a UN spokesman said.
