Four recent high-school graduates in Portland, Ore., presented the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners with a prototype design for benches to overlook the county's Sellwood Bridge, due for completion in 2016. The students studied the cost of materials and labor, eventually creating a more cost-effective, easier-to-build bench from an existing design that next year's class of students will use as they begin building the benches. "I'm really in awe," said County Commissioner Judy Shiprack.
