Atlantic Coast launches new discount carrier Independence

Atlantic Coast Airlines may seem like it's taking a big gamble by turning from its regional airline service business to launch new low-cost carrier Independence Air, which starts it first flights out of Dulles International Airport today. But the carrier saw itself as having little choice, with the two major airlines it served, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, dealing with their own financial problems.
