Sales of bar-coded boxed cookies fell 5.4% in 2003, the third year in a row sales have declined. Even storied brands such as Kraft Foods' Oreo sandwich cookies and Kellogg's Keebler Chips Deluxe have seen a drop in sales. Analysts blame the low-carb diet trend and concerns over childhood obesity, but a Kraft executive says new, more healthy offerings will revive the category.
