Food-borne illness is down, but more work can be done

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported significant declines in salmonella and E. coli incidents, but there still are concerns over how food is handled. One idea that could increase produce safety is to use drip irrigation, which avoids a plant's direct contact with potentially contaminated water, and one CDC official says simple hand-washing still goes a long way.
