Safety issues bubble up over large volume water tanks

With increasing number of large-volume water tanks under construction, security concerns are multiplying, with some suggesting the water impoundments should be regulated as dams. Speaking at a dam safety conference, Charles Wallis, water resource engineer for the Maryland Department of Environment Dam Safety Division, said the storage tanks should be classified as dams to make them subject to the same safety requirements.
