Review finds bariatric surgery less risky

An analysis of Michigan patient data shows bariatric surgery is becoming safer, and the most common form -- the Lap-Band -- is the safest of all options. Results of the Michigan Bariatric Surgery Collaborative study show, however, that Lap-Band patients lost an average of 57 pounds in the first year after the procedure, compared with 102 pounds for patients who had minimally invasive gastric bypass surgery and 118 pounds for those who had conventional gastric bypass.
