Advisers call on Congress to examine Medicare spending

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission urged Congress to cut Medicare costs by reviewing reimbursement rates for imaging scans, by providing a pathway for the FDA to approve generic biotech drugs and by reducing payments to private insurers. The recommendations come after President Barack Obama proposed to save $313 billion in Medicare spending to help support his $1 trillion health care reform.
