Everglades funds remain on hold amid dispute over land values

A dispute over how to value land purchases has stalled federal funding for a $500 million-plus project to restore the Everglades. The Army Corps of Engineers values land at current market prices. However, an agreement reached in 2000 to restore the Everglades values the land at its initial purchase price. Meanwhile, project managers say prolonging the dispute will continue to push the cost of construction higher.
