Kennedy pushes health-reform legislation with clinical IT provisions

Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., has introduced a bill aimed at overhauling insurance coverage as well as supporting clinical IT. The bill features a provision that would direct the HHS to establish standards for interoperable electronic systems to enroll people in federal and state health projects. The eHealth Initiative, however, is calling on lawmakers to include "meaningful use" and other stimulus incentives into reform efforts, citing the need to "leverage the capacity of electronic health information and tools."
