Record unemployment in eurozone crushes hopes of fast recovery

The recession cost the eurozone 1.22 million jobs in the first quarter, the biggest decline since records began in 1995, according to Eurostat, the EU's statistics office. Employment dropped 0.8% compared with the last quarter of 2008, driven largely by rising joblessness in Spain and Greece.
