Fee awards are fair game for government debt collectors

The government is within its rights to use attorney fee awards to pay clients' debts, according to a unanimous Supreme Court ruling. The justices found that fee awards were paid to clients, rather than to their attorneys, and as such can be withheld to cover debts to the federal government.
