SEC proposes stricter disclosure rules for target-date funds

The Securities and Exchange Commission proposed rules that would require target-date mutual funds, which are marketed to investors who expect to retire around a certain date, to disclose as a tag line next to the fund's name the types of securities they contain. "The tag line gives investors more than just a date to go on when looking at a fund name in advertising and marketing materials," said Mary Schapiro, chairman of the SEC. Public comments will be considered before the changes are made final.
