Weight lifting injuries are on the rise, data indicate

More Americans are lifting weights for fitness, and study data show that from 1990 to 2007 about 970,000 people ended up in an emergency department, most with injuries from dropping weights. More than 80% of the injuries occurred in men, but the annual number of injuries among women increased by 63%, compared with 46% for men.
