Feds, in cost-cutting move, to trash 1,000 .gov websites

The federal government, as part of effort to trim its budget, this summer is dumping 1,000 .gov websites, about half of its current roster. The deletions of some sites and consolidations of others also is intended to help improve public access to information, according to a spokeswoman for the Office of Management and Budget.
