Palestinian bid for UN recognition faces challenges

Palestinians are considering a bid to seek United Nations recognition for an independent state despite opposition from Israel and the U.S. Palestinians would need to secure approval from the Security Council and avoid a U.S. veto before moving on to a vote in the General Assembly, where they would need to get a two-thirds vote of approval to complete the process.
