Obama orders agencies to look closely at freeing up spectrum

Wireless carriers welcomed President Barack Obama's directive Friday to federal agencies ordering them to provide more of their allotted spectrum to wireless carriers and Internet service providers. The president is requiring departments to make regular assessments of their spectrum consumption but has carved out exceptions for public-safety use. AT&T and Sprint Nextel issued statements praising Obama's action.
