Reported Chinese government buying spree seen as bid to lift market

China's main holding company for state-owned financial firms last week acquired shares of Everbright Bank and New China Life as well as 5.2 billion yuan worth of shares in three exchange-traded funds investing mainly in blue chips, according to sources. The moves were seen as an effort to boost China's sagging stock market.
