U.S. consumers remain optimistic, but manufacturing numbers are muted

The latest U.S. consumer sentiment reading indicates spirits remain near a post-2007 high. But manufacturing output edged up only 0.1% in May after two straight months of decline. With consumer spending up only slightly in the current quarter, the outlook for further gains is cloudy.
