Nursing offers many less-traveled career paths

Most nurses work in hospitals at some point in their careers, but employment options are far from limited. Johnson & Johnson's Campaign for Nursing's Future has identified 104 nursing specialties. ANA Senior Policy Fellow Peter McMenamin says nursing informatics and geriatric nursing are two career areas with big potential. Less common nurse pathways include forensics, hospice, corrections, faith-based organizations, schools, telehealth and legal consulting.
