Transportation Department wants federal oversight for navigation apps

In an effort to curb distracted driving, the Transportation Department has introduced a measure into the Obama administration's transportation bill that would help officials restrict the ability to use navigation applications while driving. Many technology companies disagree with the measure, claiming that it is impossible for government agencies to enforce such oversight, but supporters argue that the navigation systems should be classified as motor vehicle equipment and therefore be subject to similar rules and restrictions.
