Imagine. A guy born in Belgium in 1868 put forth the first proto-Web -- before computers were even born. Paul Otlet used analog technologies to devise a "mechanical, collective brain" to solve the problem of paper overload created when he and a partner tried cataloguing 12 million individual books on index cards.
