Plastics manufacturers seek alternatives to some chemicals

Tough new regulations around the world, such as Europe's REACH legislation, are prompting plastics manufacturers to come up with alternatives to long-established chemicals. Electronics makers Apple and Hewlett-Packard have tried to come up with design plans that follow restrictions placed on certain substances. There's a focus, for instance, on alternatives to flame retardants, which have raised concerns.
