Study: Building new stadium in Tampa less costly than fixing Tropicana

Renovating Tampa's Tropicana Field and adding a retractable roof would cost more than building a new stadium, according to a study by a group of community and business leaders. The project could cost up to $471 million, compared with $450 million for a new waterfront facility. Owners of the Tampa Bay Rays noted that a renovation "would not be a prudent course of action."
