Texas county cancels drone plans due to FAA restrictions

Plans to install unmanned aerial vehicles in Collin County, Texas, to reduce a dependence on police helicopters have been canceled after officials learned that most of the county has been designated as having controlled air space by the FAA. The county applied only last week for a $235,000 grant for the drones, which would have flown at a maximum of 400 feet, but the sheriff's department said it withdrew the application.
