Unique wind turbine generates power with gentle winds

A unique wind turbine developed by a chemical engineer is capable of generating power with winds of just two miles per hour. Imad Mahawili said his turbine includes a simple hub and bearings instead of a gear system. It is also designed to have a 120-degree directional acceptance of wind, which makes it efficient for turbulent gusts.
