White House proposes 18-month extension of transportation funding

The Obama administration has proposed an 18-month extension of a transportation funding law set to expire on Sept. 30 of this year. The extension would delay the approval of a $450 billion transportation bill that covers funding for six years. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said the extension would allow time for a "smarter, more focused approach" to infrastructure investment.
