Gulf oil crisis has some pushing ethanol

Some groups -- many of which are pushing for a higher ethanol blend in gasoline -- are taking advantage of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to call for federal assistance for the corn-ethanol industry, writes Robert Bryce. But OPEI -- and several other groups including the Sierra Club -- are against a higher blend until more testing is done. OPEI says a higher blend "could damage millions of forestry, lawn and garden, and other small engine products currently housed in consumers' garages."
