Hospitals to leverage PHRs and mobile phones for diabetes care

Two hospitals in Washington, D.C., will pilot a program designed to enable diabetic patients in underserved areas to access their personal health records using mobile phones. The pilot, which will supply participating patients with an electronic health data-equipped PHR and a cell phone, seeks to better manage diabetics' lifestyle behavior and glucose levels to curb hospitalization and emergency visits.
