Valero expands involvement in renewable energy

Aside from spending nearly $750 million to acquire 10 ethanol plants in 14 months, Valero Energy has invested in six other clean-energy projects, including a wind farm. Valero's latest venture is with Algenol Biofuels, which uses algae to produce ethanol from carbon dioxide and seawater. "We're looking for ways to make sure we're part of the future," said Bill Day, a Valero spokesman.
