Just as pirating intellectual property on the Internet has upset a number of industries, 3D printing holds the potential for an even greater range of mischief and illegal profits, maintains cyber security expert Marc Goodman. "Today most 3D printers can print more than 50% of the parts required to make another 3D printer -- a percentage that is increasing rapidly. Once 3D devices can not only produce weapons but also replicate themselves, the security and economic ramifications will escalate," Goodman said.
