BNSF: Crude-by-rail is "more flexible, economical"

The use of rail service "is providing a more flexible, long-term and economical option to ship crude oil to destination markets on the East, West and Gulf coasts and along the Mississippi River," said Dave Garin, BNSF group vice president of industrial products. The railroad is expected to haul its first batch of crude oil shipments from a facility in Carlsbad, N.M., later this year. BNSF is planning to expand its service in the Permian Basin.
