More chipmakers offer SoCs for small cells

A wider variety of system-on-a-chip devices is helping enable deployment of small-cell base stations within cellular networks around the world. "I see a lot of progress in multimode SoCs from several silicon providers who have really accelerated their development time frames to get the technologies on a single chip, leveraging power over Ethernet -- especially for indoor cells," said Gordon Mansfield, chairman of the Small Cell Forum.
