Official: Claims against Conn. city's police are a factor in policy nonrenewal

A specialty insurer has decided against renewing its coverage of the Meriden, Conn., police force because of factors including excessive claims against the department, said Robert Homiski, the city's risk manager. The department has recently faced lawsuits alleging excessive force as well as officer-related property and accident claims, according to this article. The city will self-insure the department if it is unable to buy new coverage, said City Manager Lawrence Kendzior.
