PicMix is monetizing its Instagram-like photo-sharing application by branding the frames users select with labels from Hello Kitty or Louis Vuitton, for example. In the future, the company is likely to raise the $5,000 it charges brands to run frame campaigns, Victoria Ho writes. "Getting brand insertion without ill will is key. It's amazing that it's got users to want to insert brands, in a process that is not negative," Kinetiq Labs' Mike Prasad says. The app, which is featured on BlackBerry, Android and Nokia Asha, will be released in the U.S. and as an iPhone app in the next few months, the company said.
