Work has started on the long-delayed project "to build permanent storm surge gates and pumps" at New Orleans' 17th Street Canal station. The $614.8 million project will construct three pump stations and will be built by the joint venture of PCCP Constructors, which includes Kiewit Louisiana Co., the M. R. Pittman Group and Traylor Bros. The New Orleans District office of the Army Corps of Engineers will oversee the project.
