Tips for avoiding common IT hiring pitfalls

Information technology skills are in high demand, but attracting talent to your firm requires more than a simple "if you build it, they will come" strategy, experts say. Rachel Russell of the IT staffing firm TEKsystems writes that a job posting with a great compensation package is not a sufficient driver in the current hiring environment, and companies need to develop an "employee value proposition" that explains in greater detail why a candidate should choose one firm over another. Once that step is complete, Russell says it's important for firms to conduct comprehensive due diligence on a candidate to make sure their new investment is a sound one.
