Wis. group takes community approach to improving student outcomes

Concerns about student proficiency have prompted leaders in Wisconsin to turn to Milwaukee Succeeds, a group that aims to bridge the gap between schools and community stakeholders. In addition to pushing for more children to receive high-quality day care -- a predictor of future academic success -- the organization is looking to improve the percentage of third-graders demonstrating proficiency in math from 23.3% to 36% and reading from 15% to 38% by 2020.
