Health IT interoperability plans tied to payment reform, AAFP expert says

The government's 10-year plan to promote health information technology interoperability is an important issue for family physicians and its success is tied to payment reforms, said Dr. Steven Waldren, director of the AAFP's Alliance for eHealth Innovation. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT laid out steps it will take to advance interoperability, and Waldren said the AAFP, which has been working on the issue for 10 years, is ready to sign on for another decade of work.
