Series of earthquakes in Alaska confounds seismologists

A magnitude-5.7 earthquake struck in northwest Alaska on Monday, the latest in a series of temblors shaking the normally quiet area since April, leaving seismologists perplexed. "At this point, we don't really understand the nature of these earthquakes," said Natasha Ruppert, a seismologist with the Alaska Earthquake Center.
