Study: Beacons fuel shopper app use, retention

Near-field communications through services such as Apple's iBeacon, which retailers use to track shoppers, have proved to be a boon to stores and mobile-application retention, according to a study from inMarket. The company says beacons have driven app usage 16-fold in stores and increased the likelihood that shoppers will keep an app.
