Political ad spending hits all-time high

President George W. Bush and Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., spent a combined total of $66.3 million on spot TV ads between January and May, a record high for that period, Nielsen Monitor-Plus says. Bush outspent Kerry $36.4 million to $29.9 million for the five months, but Kerry, who outspent Bush in May, seems to be catching up.
