Study: FDG-PET can help avoid surgery for colon cancer patients

FDG-PET can help avoid unnecessary surgery in one out of six metastatic colon cancer patients who have liver resection based on CT data, according to a study presented at SNM's meeting this week. "If you make PET the dominant strategy, which is happening in clinical practice, the number of futile laparotomies goes down," said one of the researchers.
