Wal-Mart looks East for new outlets abroad

Wal-Mart is eyeing expansion into Russia and its neighbors as part of an overseas strategy that will include launching its first wholesale warehouse outlets in India in 2009 in a partnership with Bharti Enterprises. With operations in 13 countries, Wal-Mart has laid the foundation for its international forays by establishing new systems aimed at avoiding the types of mistakes the company made in its ill-fated ventures in South Korea and Germany in the late 1990s.
