Experts call for stringent FDA approval process for devices

The FDA can better ensure the safety of patients by implementing a tougher review process for approving medical devices, experts said at a congressional hearing. Rep. Frank Pallone, D-N.J., said he is considering whether new legislation or an increase in FDA oversight is needed to solve any issues. Other lawmakers, however, are saying the problems would need to be fixed through improved management and enforcement, as well as additional funding.
